Wilma

Well she has passed us and brought us lots of breeze and waves. yesterday we saw the biggest wave action - about 15ft plus on the reef - on the beach 3 or 4 ft. And this was with the hurricane passing about 200miles away. Cancun and Playa are really getting it tonight with it hitting them directly. just looked at the sat and the eye is currently right over cozumel.

today waves were down this morning on the reef only maybe 3 or 4ft and this afternoon maybe only a foot. wind today still offshore but it has swung around to the south west but is still gusting up to 35knots or so. wind is supposed to stay all week.

went out in the waves this morning. we usually onshore or side on so it was fun even on the little waves we had playing in the offshore conditions. I was loosing so much breeze on the back side of a wave, then getting hit by a big gust of spray. on the big ones in somewhere like maui you must just flounder in the trough at the backside.

wacky wilma wanders around
Posted by: Chris @ 7:26 pm

had a couple of days of reasonable kiting. offshore so went around into the lagoon so onshore which was good. everyone talking about wilma. currently only a tropical storm but all the models expect it to intensify. main problem is it is wobbling around not knowing what to do. this evening most models have started to agree that it will go north. good for us but not so good for others.

races but still not much breeze
Posted by: Chris @ 7:12 pm

Managed to hold some races today although not much in the way of beeze. offshore or side shore 5knots maybe. tropical depression 24 is still sucking everything away.
from now on will be the first saturday of every month - so if you are down come on by - we had 6 locals today, had a few races. everyone on starts and with sails sizes depending on weight. around a triangular course. Jo and Mikey were the best.
hopefully this latest depression will bugger off so we can get some serious sailing in.

dead calm
Posted by: Chris @ 6:24 am

I dont think I have every seen it so calm. for 3 days we have had calm conditions. usually we get a little breeze but for the last 3 days we have nothing more than 3 knots and its bloody hot…

Rescheduled the racing for this saturday coming.

The island is getting a bit busier with tourists so everyone is starting to see the light at the end of the slowest part of the season.

New START racing series
Posted by: Chris @ 5:19 pm

Have picked up a great idea from the Starboard website. we have never really organised any racing here as we dont have enough boards of similar size/shape, but reading on starboards site the other day they go on about schools using starboard starts to start  racing program. We have 8 of the things and it means anyone can join in. We are having our first race on Sat 8th then races on the first sat of every month. Everyone is welcome so if you are coming down come and join in.

TD20

TD20 has finally formed off the coast. it has been mucking around for a while trying to decide what it wants to do, which is good as now that it has finally decided to form it is too close (hopefully) to gain very much strength. should just bring rain and not much else. has been raining a lot for the last few days, have still managed to get some sailing and windsurfing in but not too exciting.
winds are currently 5-15kn out of the n or west.
