Had a couple of good days - mornings anyway. Last three or four days have had a good 20kn breeze every morning. Has been dropping off quite early each day- earlier than usual - about 10am. but has picked up each afternoon. I have managed to sneak out each morning in the waves either windsurfing or kiting.
The new weather station is great - although all too easy to just sit and watch it
Blair is back in town so nice to have someone else out in the waves with me. Johnny comes out but has to work occasionally so doesnt usually get out first thing.
North is coming along. Elder and I have been up there a few afternoons this week builiding the booth. hope to have it ready for operation next week. tuesday hopefully.
Island news - the new bridge over the river opened officially today. looks very nice. Paint festival starts tomorrow - look out everyone.
Had a few days of 12-13kn, with the occasional 15, good for the boats and beginners then today a nice blow this morning 20+ but dropped quite quickly. stayed 15ish most of the day, has now picked up again this evening so should blow through until the morning. waves should also have built.
Cory went home today. has been out kiting a few times in good breeze but missed the 35kn and following lagoon trip then went out on a trip the only other 20+ day we had, then had to sit and watch us this morning as he was leaving on the 9.30flight. thems the breaks sometimes I’m afraid. poor guy.
Bruce has been having fun here for a month.. comes over every day to chat, sail and hang out. Sam another regular visitor arrived yesterday, has been coming down for the last 5 years.
Finally got my weather station on the roof of the Hotel. reads really well out of the east, a little gusty off the hotel roof out fo the north east. Hoping to have it attached to the computer sometime this week - ish. Hey this is belize everything takes twice as long. Also started building Sailsports North at the Essene way. Elder and I went up there this afternoon and started work.
My folks arrived yesterday. Here for 7 weeks which is great they havent seen Noah since the summer when we went back to the UK. They stay in the Cabana on the beach next to our house.
Great watersport day and was a great skydiving day. 10-20kn clear blue skies. that all ended with the news that one of the skydivers had died. whole island is deflated. hope they jump again tomorrow.
No posting for a couple of days but the week has been pretty good. A real mixture of weather.
Saturday the Skydivers had a great day 10 -12 kn SE in the morning then slowing down in the afternoon.
Sunday strongest cold front of the year so far Tropic recorded gusts of up to 43knots. The skydivers were grounded so wanted to learn to kite… er sorry a little bit gusty for me to teach… although a couple of the windsurfers had fun Junior went out on a 4.2 over powered, not surprisingly. Temp went below 60 a record low for belize. all the locals - inc me were wearing 3 or 4 layers of clothes, cant imagine living back in england in the winter brrrr
then monday tues a couple of less windy 15plus cold front days Bruce had fun as did a great group who had been out with us a couple of times windsurfing. they wanted me to give them a mention so Hi - hope you got home ok. come visit again sometime and we will get those gybes dialed in.
Today was another mucky but windy day bit rainy but a good 5.1 wave board breeze at its peak - nice waves aswell.
As for the island all is hotting up for the 1st March elections .
The other thing I need to do is welcome our new member of staff - Elder - started on Monday, just learning the ropes. building Sailsports north this week at the Essene way so hope to have it up and running by the weekend( not saying which weekend.). Initially just a couple of boats and beginner boards.
Has been nice and windy the last few days - 15 -20kn from just about every direction - offshore/ sideshore now onshore. not that I am complaining. Bruce is hasnt managed to read any of his book for the last few days he has been sailing so much.
Three of the Caye Caulker kiters came over yesterday to do a downwinder to their island. Usually a great ride but the lunchtime lull kicked in, they set off got to the end of the Ambergris and wisely decided not to risk 15 miles of open water. They were a bit disappointed but enjoyed the adventure. Hope to give it another go in a week or so.
The Skydivers are arriving on the island for their annual Boogie. I think there is going to be about 150 of them jumping from the 11th. Anyone interested in a tandem then come over and they will gladly take you up.
Another strong cold front is due through on sunday so planning a lagoon trip for monday.
Had a few days of on and off breeze. Best was an hour on a 5.1 in the waves - 5 or 6ft faces. Cold front came through today - strong last night but weakened up today. not much going on by the time we got going out it was 12 - 15 around lunch then switched to on-shore. Bz weather are predicting 10-20 onshore all week so should be good.
Island is getting busy again - a few kiters and windsurfers.
Got the new Hobie waves in over the weekend. Also started using the Cat trax for pulling the boats in and out. All the local kids are having fun with them pretending to be strong men lifting weights.
Was supposed to have races on yesterday but with the oncoming cold front cancelled them until next week. We have a few people down so should be fun.
Hoping to start up north at the Essence Way next week. Now I have the new boats and a little time will go up there and set it up.
