more Christmas windsurfing news

Now the Merry Christmas thing has been said.
We have finally got some decent breeze - divers are mad - SE upto 28kn before Christmas then strong cold front over Christmas giving us 15-25kn NW then 15-25kn the last couple of days. great for all sailsports. too much this morning really - had some rain and storm cells come through so had to bring everything in.
Les got up and rode for ever - his daughter even filmed it. Shawn has been going upwind like a monster. I had a great wave session on my favourite board - maui project - and a 5.1. Junior and Eliazer and some of the other locals all got out and exhausted themselves.
Noah loved Christmas - all the lights, trees and santas in town. Not so good with the late nights - maybe the start of the terribel 2’s although probably just tired like the rest of us.
Sammy - the new windsurfing mutt - is now coming into town with me most days. she hates being at home wants to be with people all the time, gets so excited when people give her attention. tried to come out in the boat kiting with us yesterday..
Las Olas - our boutique windsurfing/kiting condo project took a step closer to a reality as we have decided on an Architect. all very exciting. hope to have a website and the schematic up in Jan.
Not sure about tomorrow night. island is busy busy - cant wait till it gets back to normal - think it will be an early night with noah.

happy New Year to all.

since the last post we have been living in a vacuum. a very wet vacuum at certain times. Poor old Les as hit it the worst ever. arrived sunday and I think we have got his kite flying for a total of 10 minutes. crap. such is life though. Due to turn around on Friday. approaching cold front will give us some nice SE then great NW on the lagoon side. 20+ kn is predicted
other stuff:
Island is stating to get busy for Christmas - doesnt feel Christmassie at all. still cant get used to the heat at Christmas.
Lisa from Kitebelize in Placencia is visiting for a couple of days on her sail boat. no wind there either. Pity she hasnt been able to get out and enjoy our spot.
Going to re start the Ambergris Caye Sailing Club. So many kids with nothing to do here. would be great to get a bunch of Optimists to get the schools into sailing. There is the North American Optimist Championships in Mexico in July, they are expecting 190 junior sailors. so we are going to be raising  some cash to buy some of their charter boats. more after Christmas.
Big meeting about the roads on Monday  trying to get the government to plan to resolve the problem everytime it rains.
Sailsports north is still dead - come by and at least say hello if you are on the beach by the Essene way - next to Captain morgans and Belizean Shores

windsurfing and kiting in the rain

Rain rain go away, dont come back another day.
Friday was lovely - NW again although the forecast reconned NE but a good 18kn in the morning so went over to the back side of the island to a pure white sandy sand bar to teach Cliff and Linda to kite. Also took a couple of the other locals to kite - beautiful out there. Junior and Eliazer windsurfed off the front. Jon also managed to get out on the front side which made his week. Since then it has just poured down. pity the rain gauge is still playing up. Managed to get a quick session in in the lagoon behind town on Saturday - again a few locals went over - out on the 12m SB in flat flat water.
Today it drizzled all morning and all afternoon- warm enough to play out on the beach with noah and sammy- shut the shop as it was so miserable. Roads are appauling. Just started to really piss it down again. at least the breeze has switched back to the east.
Anyone for sailing in the rain.
hoping its going to brighten up tomorrow and dry up all the rain.
Finally got the Christmas tree up this week - still have a problem with warm weather Christmas’s. never feels really Christmasie. Noah loves it. as soon as he gets up he want the lights on and immediately says Wow.

Have had a couple of days of NW - N winds maxing around 17-18 kn but up and down all day. lots of rain yesterday, beautiful day today, blue blue sky and clear clear water. Afraid some of the gauges on the weather station dont seem to be working - rain and outside temp - hope to get up onto the roof tomorrow to check it out.
Went away for the weekend. Jo was getting island fever and Vicky and Ray from Pooks hill Jungle lodge on the mainland had invited us and Phil and Marie over for a preseason party. Pooks hill is a fantastic place - over 300 acres of untouched pristine jungle 5 miles off the road between Belmopan and San Ignacio. Its where Jo and I got married so is really special for us. We had the ceremony in the mayan ruin right on the property that they have partially excavated. Stopped at the Zoo on the way - great zoo - not usually a fan of zoos but all the animals are rescued and habitats are all natural, no concrete cages - some of the animals are amazing - tapir, jaguars, hawks everything.
Pretty quiet here on the island. North - Essene way, next to Belizean shores and Captain Morgans is open so anyone coming down and staying north of town come and see us in the afternoons. one of us is there every afternoon from 1pm to 4.30ish.
